Welcommen

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm still really new at this but I hope you'll get to know me a little bit after you've browsed around my little home and get a feel for who I am and what I love to do. Please do visit my site from time to time to follow some updates as I continue my blogging journey. This is really cool and so far I'm really having the fun of my life. This is so much like writing a journal or journalism in its truest form - lady diary! Thanks again for this sweet opportunity to have met you here.

Who Dat

O si, mi nombre es Romeo Ceniza Mascariñas. My friends call me quite a number of nicks: Romy, Meo or Romimash. I'm a musician by trade and not so recently went into songwriter in addition to my many 'gigs' here and there. I've been a musician and bandplayer all my life but I also love to listen to quite a number of commercial music on the airwaves. My musical influences range from rock to jazz, to pop, classical (every once in a while) and lately, hip hop. But I do hold on to the Eagles as one of my most favorite groups and influences of all time and as the band who really got my attention as terms of sounds and performance. Call them my heroes if you may.

In the world outside of music, needless to say, it's all about family. Family is where I find life -solace and joy, comfort and thrill - especially when I'm with my beloved one and and the two apples of our eyes, the kids. What can I say... they are God's answer to my unanswered prayers. Apart from them life doesn't have much meaning, if there is any at all. Then, of course, my blood-family: my parents and siblings. To them I owe most of everything: birth, education, friendship, moral and all kinds of support imaginable, encouragement, love, life, etc. Again, apart from these significant people of my life, there's not much life support and I might as well stay in my own nothingness. What a blessing they are to me and I feel so good and lucky!

As far as music is concerned... oh, what a gift and added blessing it is to what I already have!

INDECISION

Words by J. Roel Lungay

Music by Romeo C. Mascariñas

Performed by J. Ann Talisic, Romeo Mascariñas &
J. Roel Lungay

1
Indecision
Reflects uncertainty
Prevents our moving on.
Vindication
Excuses that we make
To hide away the truth.

2
Irreligion
It's messing up the faith
It's really going deep.
Invocation -
A need to make a plea
It's a real deal.

Refrain:
There's no regret, no illusion
Not sign of regress or confusion
Violence feeds revolution.
Avoid bad emotion,
Embrace high ambition -
Life is too precious
We have to move on.

3
Domination -
Competition everywhere,
Can't see the finish line.
Hard condition -
Imprisonment for all;
We have to free ourselves.

Bridge:
Evolution
With all its growing pain
Creation at its best.
Animation -
It brings us life again
A glorious day begins.

(Repeat Refrain twice)

Coda:
Indecision
It's something we can't keep
We need to move along.
Indecision
No matter if it's deep
We have to move along.

(Repeat Coda while fading)

Romeo! Romeo! Samplers

Big Bang Preview

(The imagery of a Big Bang always suggests something big and gong-y. Maybe it is, may be it ain't. Actually, the title was based on a "day-before celebration" when the lyric was written, the New Year's Eve fireworks! The pressure of writing the "first song" for Roro's Music had been brewing since September of 2008 but for the lack of inspiration, it always fell on the side. Finally, at the beginning of 2009 things started to get rolling (thanks be to God!), and now we're on our way to you! Pretty soon!)

BIG BANG PROJECT 2009 - INTO THE FUTURE

Words by J. Roel Lungay

Music by Romeo Mascariñas

Performed by Romeo Mascariñas

1
Wait 'til you hear from me;
When I come to you
With a friend or two,
When I call your name
No, it’s not a game;
Take a real deep breath
Coz’ I’m aiming for you!

2
When you open that door
‘Til the sun's no more
When I count to four
Yes, you’ll think I’m a fool.
When the moon comes out
And you hear me shout,
Yes, you’ll open your mouth
You won't know what strike you out!

Chorus:
Big bang! Big bang!
Big bang! Big bang!
Let this night be the night!
Big bang! Big bang!
Big bang! Big bang!
What a sight for the eyes!

3
Like a kid at school
I’m all over you.
Everything’s a game
I don’t feel no pain.
When you see me frown
Take a hike, turn around.
Now if you see me smile
Everything is worth the while.

(Repeat Refrain)

(Interlude)

Bridge:
What a year it had been
Like a roller-coaster train.
Life will never be the same
But never, never say again!

(Repeat Chorus then fade)

The New Journey

Call this my take on Roro Music. Well, I'm no genius in terms of journalistic trickery but what I say I say from the heart. Period. And I mean it.

So what is Roro? It's a coinage my music partner came up with, almost as instantaneously as the first song we came up with. Roro represents both our names: the first RO for Romeo and the second RO for Roel. Hence, Roro... and, Roro Music, needlessss to say, for the new partnerhip we've just begun as we find ourselves continually benefitting from the 'creatives juices' we never knew we still have until not-so-recently when we decided to combine our energies, skills and musical experiences that allow us to re-create ourselves - and even refresh our dreams - as we embark on something new, beautiful and artistic... something that we always loved and wanted to do, writing music together.

Welcome to the new journey of Roro Music!

There's no telling where it'll end...

May God continue to bless us!

LOVE SOMEHOW WILL FIND A PLACE IN OUR HEARTS

Words by J. Roel Lungay

Music by Romeo Mascariñas

Performed by Romeo Mascariñas

1
There’s no telling where it’ll end
There’s no saying we’re just friends
All I can say right now is don’t say a word
Love somehow will find a place in our hearts.

2
I’m in no hurry I can wait
I’ll just tarry ’til it’s here
All I can do right now is not say a word
Love somehow will find a place in our hearts.

Chorus:
I know what love does for you
There’s not much explaining to do
Love somehow will tickle our hearts
And settle inside [that’s why/that‘s right].

The joy that you feel inside
Is much like taking you off for a ride
Love somehow will take its flight
In joining our hearts in love.

3
I can imagine what I feel
Yet I wonder, if it’s real
I’ll just close my eyes and not say a word
Love somehow will find a place in our hearts.

(Interlude)

(Chorus)

Coda:
I’ll just close my eyes and not say a word
Love somehow will find a place in our hearts.

Stay

---------------------

STAY
Words and music by Romeo Mascariñas

1
Standing here
Moving everywhere
Facing on the walls
Waiting for your call
Staring at your pictures
That I treasure
Dreaming night and day
That you are here with me.

2
Sipping wine
Just to pass the time
But I couldn’t find
Any peace of mind
Thoughts of hope are hazy
I have to go away
Then one day you came back to me
And turn my dreams to reality.

Refrain:
Life’s never been the same
Since you are back with me, baby
Sleepless nights were gone
And empty feeling swept and thrown away
Promise you will stay.

(Interlude)

Thoughts of hope are hazy
I have to go away
The one day you came back to me
And turn my dreams to reality.

(Repeat Refrain except last line)

Bridge:
Promise me baby
That you will stay
Don't ever leave me anymore -
Always be a part of me

(Repeat Refrain)

(Instrumental)

Leizel

----------------------

LEIZEL

Words by Linda Mascariñas

Music by Romeo C. Mascariñas

Performed by Arthur Ungab

Refrain:
Not long ago, you're only a warm bundle in our arms
But time changed all that
As time changes everything
The once warm bundle is now a lovely blushing bride
Who walks in the aisle with a lovely smile

1
Liezel, Liezel, our very own
God-sent lovely angel
You made our lives complete.
Long before your birth
We already named you Liezel

2
Our life you charmed with your dimpled smiles
And the music of your laughter filled our hearts
With happy songs heaven only can give
Our joy knew no bounds

(Repeat Refrain )

3
Ohh, with tears in our eyes and love in our hearts
We give you away to the man of your dreams
Who loves you dearly just like we do
God knows, hopefully.

Coda:
We haven't lost a daughter but gain a son instead
God bless you both on this wedding day.
Onward to your new love and life
Liezel, oh, Liezel
Oh Liezel, our ever dearest girl.

Our Hearts Rejoice

----------------------------------
OUR HEARTS REJOICE

Words and music by Romeo C. Mascariñas

Performed by Nanan Mortejo and Jennifer Ann Talisic

1
Our hearts rejoice
On this blessed day of new beginnings
You caused our paths to cross.

2
In rapt, in love
These things that come from you alone
Binding us together
Drawing us closer to each other.

Refrain:
You wove our hopes & plans to reality
This blissful wondrous dream into one destiny
To face boldly our tomorrow
As we live as one.
Bearing sun and rain along the way,
Bravely pursuing secure in your hands.

(Repeat 1 & 2)

(Repeat Refrain)

Coda:
What more could we ask
You’ve given your lamp to blaze our trails
Ever leading, never leaving
On this our wedding day
Onward, thank you
Thank you, Lord (Thank you, Lord)
Thank you.

Unanswered Prayers

(There's no way I would ever miss this song for the world. For all I care, this song happens to be very special and close to my heart, as it was specifically written for me to sing to my one and only and to my two little angels. January 5, 2005, this song became me. I've been married to it... just to let you know, hahaha!) - MEO MAS

Jose Feliciano, aw, I mean, Fr. Jose Roel Lungay (or FRO) fooling around with my music hahaha... he wanted to sing this song badly but just couldn't get our hands to recording it for him this past summer. Anyway, we call this "The Art of Lip Synch."

UNANSWERED PRAYERS

Words by J. Roel Lungay

Music by Romeo Mascariñas

Performed by Romeo Mascariñas

1
Last night I woke up in the middle of the night,
Thought of things that meant so much
for me and my wife -
Children, school and house, livelihood and life.
I can’t stop thanking God for these
Unanswered prayers.

2
When I was young my dreams were
diff’rent from what I have now.
I took a lot for granted, never cared so much;
Dreaming far away, I could never stay.
But now, I’m thankful, God,
For these unanswered prayers.

Refrain:
[You/they] are the answer to my unanswered prayers.
I swear to God [you/they] are my unanswered prayers;
I may not have known
Coz I was so young and alone
But now I realize you are the answer
To my very prayers.

3
Funny but it seems like God had made plans all along;
Took a lot of twists and turns, had to let go of my own;
Funny it may seem, you know, how lucky have I been
Now I have you all beside me - my unanswered prayers.

Bridge:
God, I can’t thank enough, you're Lord of my life.
Coz I owe you so much, I fall down on my knees;
I couldn’t bear the thought of it
had you answered all my dreams -
I wouldn’t have my wife and kids -
Your very answer to my unanswered prayers.

(Interlude)

(Repeat Refrain except last 2 lines)

Coda:
But now I realize you are the answer
to my very prayers.

Caingget Sunset

(For some reason this song is right up there with some of the very best of my works, not just because the theme, Caingget Sunset, had been lurking around in my mind for quite sometime now (originally as a jazz concept) but more so because of the fact that every word and portrayal made on this piece seem to bespeak about me and my own personal experiences in relation to this special place we call Caingget. Call me nostalgic, because I really am, but you can also call me a Caingget fanatic... at one time, hahaha!)

CAINGGET SUNSET

Words by J. Roel Lungay

Music by Romeo Mascariñas

Performed by Romeo Mascariñas

Prologue:
Caingget sunset!
Caingget sunset!
Caingget sunset!

1
People here just come and go
Take a dip, an hour or two;
Young and old, and children too!
Make their days as good as new.

2
Local wine, a sip or two;
Hanging rice and seafood, too,
Love to eat dem barbeque -
Happy faces, smiling, too!

Chorus:
Caingget sunset
I’d like be the man I’d be!
Caingget sunset
I’d like to know what’s there to do!

Caingget sunset
I can’t believe these things are true!
Caingget sunset
I wanna go, I wanna go!
Caingget sunset
Caingget sunset
I wanna go!

3
Music, singing, guitars, too!
Noises everywhere you go;
Call it influence or so
Nothing matters, just be you!

4
Used to dive here years ago
Scream and shout, at night time, too!
Learned to sing a note or two.
Wet and wild, and naked, too!

Bridge:
Caingget sunset!
Caingget sunset!
Caingget sunset!
Caingget sunset!

AD LIB

(Repeat Chorus)

Coda:
Caingget sunset!
Caingget sunset!
I wanna go!

Cogon Doves

No, this has nothing to do with birds or doves. Even worse, has nothing to do with a locale we always call home, Cogon (Tagbilaran). It wasn't anything sold in stores to keep one's body clean and moisturized when taking a shower or going for a bath. Worse yet, it's not something that emits a sound or music when put on a player-tray we call nowadays as CD. Nope. Nope. Nope.

For young readers and curious blog-inquirers like you are, it sure is one hell of a mystery that you're probably asking yourself, right at this very moment, "What in the world is he talking about?" Ahihihi.

Anyways, why don't we leave things the way they were... almost half-forgotten!

But for those whose life has just begun (didn't someone say life begins at forty?) - not the baby boomers but the fortyish something - it sure means something special.

And a memorable one at that!

ROAD TO NOWHERE

Words by J. Roel Lungay

Music by Romeo Mascariñas

Performed by Romeo Mascariñas

1
There’s a highway down the road
People trav‘ling, young and old
Which direction I don’t know but I was told…
It’s called the road to nowhere.

2
There’s a dude in jet-black hair
With guitar and picking tunes
Where he came from no one knows but I was told…
He came from road to nowhere.

Refrain:
There’s a road to nowhere
Many people standing there.
Road to nowhere,
I wanna do my dancing there;
Like a marketplace
It’s crowded and you can’t hear
It’s a road to nowhere
Really, road to nowhere.

(Interlude)

Bridge:
Down that road you can’t show your face,
Expect to be embraced.
I was told you are on your own
Or you can hit the road!

3
Love to travel down that road,
No return and no regrets,
Love to tell my kids one day when I am old
I’ve been to the road of nowhere.

(Repeat Refrain)

Coda:
Like a marketplace
It’s full of crowd, but then
It’s a road to nowhere.
Yeah, really road to nowhere.
Like a marketplace
It’s full of crowd, but then
It’s a road to nowhere.
You bet, it's road to nowhere.

Chicogon Bwais

There's is always something to be proud about when you hear this made-for-nonsense slang amongst friends and a few lucky objects of influence who dared listen to our ramblings. I'm talking about the word Chicogon. Nonsense or not, for us, it stands for pride. Tightness. It's stands for something similar to the word patriotism , that is, of course, in twisted form (hahaha!). The coinage represents memories of hard-fought young adulthood and some friendship. (Oh, boy, I'm stuck with lightning blackout!). Or, how about the term representing HOME and the homeboys... of course, not of today's generation, but in ours... some thirty something years ago!

Because of unavailability of antique photos, we could only give you this one: the adopted Chicogon Bwais

WORKING MAN

Words by J. Roel Lungay

Music by Romeo C. Mascariñas

Performed by Romeo Mascariñas

1
Monday to Friday I’m always away
Getting up early and I’m on my way
Driving to my job for fifty dollars a day
I ain’t complaining I’m a working man.
When you’re a working man
You’re always on the run
When schedules are behind
You’re catching all the time.
When you’re a working man
Under the heat of a gun
You ain’t got life
Got nothing much of a chance.

Chorus:
Yes, I’m a working man,
I’m a working man.
I leave a lot behind, sometimes pretend I’m blind.
Yes, I’m a working man,
I’m a working man.
A working man is hardly home, he barely eats at all
O yeah, the working man
A good working man is a hell of a man!

2
Night time on Friday I go for a beer
Going home late when ready to sleep
Missus always ask me where the hell have I been
“Hey! wait a minute, I’m a working man!”

Ad Lib

When you’re a working man
Under the heat of the sun
You’ve got no chance
They call you ‘son of a gun.’

(Repeat Chorus)

Bridge:
Saturday and Sunday, at home on these days
Keeping missus happy, eating honey all day
Church on Sunday, doing laundry, watching TV, oh yeah
There ain’t no stopping I’m a working man!

Coda:
Yes, I’m a working man,
I’m a working man.
I do a lot, you know, sometimes pretend I’m done.
When you’re a working man,
Always a working man.
A working man is sometimes home, he gets to do it all
O yeah, the working man
A good working man quite a hell of a man, yeah!

Way Back When

This title alone suggests a distant past. Wow! How far back in time, only the mind or memory can tell. But what a journey it has been and still is going. What lies ahead, if anyone can see beyond today, I don't even dare guess. I'm just so thankful of what my present lays before me. What a blessing life truly is! And I owe it all to God, who is good all the time!

Take a look at this...

The 4 Blessed Looks

Look back and "Thank" God.

Look forward and "Trust" God.

Look around and "Serve" God.

Look within and "Find" God!"

An illustration of a semi-embarrassing way back when when we were care-free and non-sensical, whoaaaah!!! I'm glad I wasn't actually present when they posterized this one, hahaha.

MISSING YOU

Words by J. Roel Lungay

Music by Romeo C. Mascariñas

Performed by Jennifer Ann Talisic

1
When you disappear
Never to come back
Quite some pourin’ tears
Did you ever think of that?

2
You made some enemies
They hate you oh so bad
What you gonna do,
Really hurt me bad?

Refrain:
Missing you, missing you, missing you
Really do, really do, really do
Please come home, please come home, do come home
I really need your love, oh yeah!

(Interlude)

3
Mind is getting tired,
Eyes are getting dry,
Heart is always sad,
Wishing you come back!

4
Oh, please don’t make it hard
Open up your heart
Hear to what I say
I’m waiting every day!

(Repeat Refrain)

Bridge:
I’m really reaching out to hold you, baby, yeah
It’s just a matter of time you’ll be mine
I’m begging you, I’m begging you
Promise me, please
Don’t ever let go!

(Repeat Refrain)
